Hector Xavier Monsegur, AKA Sabu, alleged mastermind of hacker group LulzSec, was secretly working for the FBI, from the summer of 2011 through the first quarter of 2012. It has been said that Sabu was arrested during the summer of 2011, in which he was charged with 12 criminal counts of conspiracy, facing a total of 124 years and 6 months in prison. From that point, Monsegur worked with the FBI and helped them to arrest five other hackers, two within the UK, two in Ireland, one in Chicago. One FBI official told FOX News that “This is devastating to the organization … we’re chopping off the head of LulzSec.”
Anonymous has trivialized this claim by the FBI, as well as the FBI arrests, stating in the above video that “there are many grains of sand on a beach, so these grains taken won’t alter a thing,” and that the FBI “certainly cannot win.” To read more on this story, go to http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/mar/06/lulzsec-sabu-working-for-us-fbi for more information.
Anonymous claims to support the “99 percent,” and has considered themselves the “air force” for the Occupy Movement.
What do you think of the hacker-activist group “Anonymous?” Do you think that they are revolutionaries, with the primary objective of “social justice?” Or do you think they are a menacing group, who feels they are ‘above the law,’ and nothing more than “domestic terrorists,” as they have been described by public figures and some government officials.
